Waxing Tips
Before Waxing:
- DO NOT apply oils or lotions to the area to be waxed.
- DO NOT use any AHA’s or exfoliating products 2 days prior to service.
- NOTIFY YOUR AESTHETICIAN if you are using RETIN-A or RENOVA.
- WARNING: We will NOT be able to perform waxing services on ANYONE using RETIN-A or RENOVA within the last two (2) weeks. Scarring and lifting of the skin may occur if a waxing service is performed on an area where RETIN-A or RENOVA is used.
After Waxing:
- AVOID application of HEAT to the waxed area for 12 to 24 hours. This includes hot baths, sauna and steam baths.
- AVOID SUNBATHING for 12 to 24 hours after waxing. This includes any strong UV light exposure or sun bed treatments.
- AVOID applying highly FRAGRANCED products to the waxed area. This includes perfume, scented body lotions, anti-perspirants, cosmetics or feminine hygiene sprays. Only use the professional products recommended by your aesthetician who performed the waxing service.
- AVOID using HARSH ABRASIVES or exfoliators in the waxed area. This includes any AHA (glycolic acids) products. The only exception is an AHA product recommended by your aesthetician. If you are prone to in-grown hairs, loofah mittens or exfoliant scrubs can be used ONCE the hair has begun to grow back.
- AVOID applying high SPF SUN BLOCKS to the waxed area for 12 to 24 hours. After the 12 to 24 hours, a sun block must be worn. Sunscreen chemicals can be irritating to the newly waxed skin. This includes Self-Tanning products and Tan Accelerators.
- Any REDNESS of the skin should disappear within 6 to 8 hours after the waxing treatment. Slight redness is normal and indicates that the hair was removed from the root; rather than superficially broken off, as in shaving. An EGF cream or gel can be applied to the area to accelerate the healing process. (Available through your aesthetician)
Tips for Better Waxing:
1. The night before waxing, gently exfoliate the area to be waxed and use a light-weight moisturizer without alpha hydroxy acids, which may irritate.
2. When using “hot” wax, always test the temperature on back of your hand first. The wax should be a little warm, but the temperature should be comfortable.
3. For best results when using hot wax, first cleanse the area and pat skin completely dry.
4. Using a cotton ball, apply just enough powder to see the hair.
5. Apply wax in the direction of the hair growth, apply strip muslin for fine hair and cloth for coarser hair. Always apply wax to dry skin and press three times in the direction of the hair growth. Pull strip off in the opposite direction and immediately apply pressure. This also relieves irritation and redness.
6. For the least amount of redness after waxing, apply calming lotion, using a light circular motion and tap with fingertips.
